Inquire about the availability of documents in alternate formats.

 A single volunteer can make a difference in the life of young adults. Mentoring, transporting and supervising are just a few services available for volunteers to aid in the healthy development of youths in our communities. These fundamental resources will help prepare and guide them in the future.

Child Supervision & Support

Donner Comfort Room

Supervise and support children who have been placed into protective custody and who are awaiting placement into foster care. Interested volunteers must be age 18 or older. Location: Stockton Boulevard near Broadway. Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. Contact Tammy Liu, Department of Health and Human Services, 916-875-2027.

Court Playroom

Supervise and support children who have been brought to court and need to meet with their attorney and/or need to be present at court. Interested volunteers must be age 18 or older. Location: Power Inn Road near Highway 50. Hours: Anytime between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Monday – Friday. Contact Tammy Liu, Department of Health and Human Services, 916-875-2027.

Children's Receiving Home

Supervise and support children who have been placed into protective custody and who are awaiting placement into foster care. Interested volunteers must be age 18 or older. Location: Auburn Boulevard near Highway 80. Hours: Monday – Friday, 12 p.m. - 10 p.m. Contact Tammy Liu, Department of Health and Human Services, 916-875-2027.

Independent Living Program (ILP)

Mentor

 ILP needs volunteers to act as mentors for youth aged 14-18 years old. Mentors must provide a minimum commitment of 6 months and attend any required training. Interested volunteers must be age 18 or older. Location: Del Paso Blvd near highway 160. Hours: Flexible. Contact Deanna Ramirez, Department of Health and Human Services, 876-7285. Teacher/Tutor

The Independent Living Program (ILP) Program needs mentors for foster youth. Currently recruiting mentors for youth aged 16 & 17 years old. Mentors must provide a minimum commitment of 6 months and attend any required training. Must be age 18 or older. Hours are flexible. Transportation Assistant

ILP needs volunteers to transport youth to seminars, workshops, meetings and special events. Interested volunteers must be age 18 or older with a clean driving record. Location: Del Paso Blvd near highway 160. Hours: Weekdays and some weekends, 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. Contact Tammy Liu, Department of Health and Human Services, 916-875-2027.

Youth Services Assistant

ILP needs volunteers to help in the office. Duties include data entry, case research, emailing, and helping to coordinate special events & fundraisers. Interested volunteers must be age 18 or older. Location: Del Paso Boulevard near Highway 160. Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Contact Tammy Liu, Department of Health and Human Services, 916-875-2027.

Foster Grandparents Program

 The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) was developed in 1965 and was intended to enable limited income senior citizens to volunteer with children who demonstrate exceptional needs. The Sacramento division has strived to fulfill this mission, to recruit and train limited-income seniors ages 60 or older, and to provide twenty hours per week of one-on-one attention to special needs children. Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) – An Invitation for Seniors to Serve

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) promotes volunteerism and helps people over age 50 find their perfect volunteer niche among approximately 130 affiliated public or non-profits agencies. RSVP volunteers work in a variety of settings with children such as assisting teachers in schools, mentoring youth, assisting children at the crisis nursery and serving as docents for children visiting the zoo, nature and science centers and history museums. Therapeutic Recreation Services

Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS) provides skill-training and recreational opportunities for individuals within the community with various disabilities. Volunteers are utilized as chaperones at dances, day trips and community events such as The Great Race® and events in the park. Volunteers have the opportunity to coach Special Olympics teams and are class instructors in your area of interest.
