Special Features:Foster Grandparent Volunteer Receives Prestigious AwardL’Oreal Paris has awarded Ora Rakestraw, Sacramento County Foster Grandparent, the prestigious honor of Women of Worth 2009 for her volunteer efforts. As a recipient, the Foster Grandparent Program was awarded $5,000. You can help the Foster Grandparent Program receive an additional award of $25,000 by voting for Ora at the L’Oreal Women of Worth website. Voting starts November 9 and ends November 24. The Entertainment Industry Foundation Launches iParticipateThe Entertainment Industry Foundation has rallied the support of television networks and celebrities to help get the word out about the importance of service. The goal is to mobilize as many Americans as possible to start giving back to their communities by volunteering their time and resources to benefit education, military families, environmental conservation, public health, and financial security. Learn more about iParticipate and ways you can volunteer in your community. Outstanding Volunteers Recognized by Sacramento CountyVolunteerism remains profitable during economic hardships. Volunteers and volunteer groups were recognized for their service on Tuesday, April 21 by the Board of Supervisors. Sacramento County utilized more than 9,285 volunteers and students who donated 614,395 hours. The monetary value of the staggering contribution is $12,547,199. A ceremonial check was presented to the Board of Supervisors followed by a reception for the volunteers. For more information about the event, view the press release. |
